Thank a Youth Care Worker Day
On Thursday, May 7, we join communities across the globe to celebrate Thank a Youth Worker Day The international celebration recognizes Youth Workers who tirelessly commit themselves to making a difference in the lives of young people. Thank a Youth Worker Day was started by a group of professionals in 2009 to raise awareness regarding the field’s significant impact. Today, the day is celebrated around the world shining a spotlight on the critical role these individuals play in society.
According to the National Collaboration for Youth, a Youth Worker is an individual who works with or on behalf of children and/or youth to facilitate their personal, social, and educational development. Youth Workers enable them to gain a voice, influence, and place in society as they make the transition from dependence to independence.
At LifeWorks, we’d like to recognize our amazing team of Youth Care Workers dedicated to providing a pathway to self-sufficiency for more than 4,000 youth and families. LifeWorks provides 21 programs designed to bolster self-sufficiency under the categories of Housing, Counseling, and Education/Workforce. With those pillars in place, our incredible staff work toward building a community system that ensures youth homelessness is rare, brief and non-recurring.
Even amid our global pandemic, LifeWorks continues to support and house youth, a population extremely vulnerable during this challenging time. Staff from our Emergency Shelter, PORT, and Youth Resource Center run regularly scheduled programing for youth and young adults while doubling down on all existing and new protocol to ensure safety. The collaboration, heart, and commitment of these Youth Care Workers continue to make a tremendous impact when we need it the most.
“I want to thank each and every Youth Worker for your courage, tenacity and collaboration during this new time,” shared LifeWorks Chief Executive Officer Susan McDowell. “Every single day there have been literally dozens of acts of compassion and ingenuity, both large and small. We recognize everyone for a collective commitment and creativity during these extraordinary times.”
