In the News: Austin American-Statesman
Since the launch of our End Youth Homelessness ATX 2020 Campaign, LifeWorks has been highlighted across Austin media outlets. Most recently, we were featured in the Austin American-Statesman.
The article showcased the invaluable tool that allows us to have a true impact on youth and the Austin community. This illuminating resource is data.
“We have to know — really know — that what we are working so hard to make possible is actually making a difference for the people who trust us to help,” said Susan McDowell, CEO of LifeWorks. “This begins with making sure we have a clear understanding of who we are serving and the problems that we are trying to help them solve.”
Guided by meaningful data, LifeWorks leaders meticulously select and develop programs that have the greatest impact on our youth. The data allows for us to determine risk factors and better implement wrap-around strategies proven to work.
Dr. Liz Schoenfeld, left, chief research and evaluation officer at LifeWorks, speaks with Kate Robinson, Executive Producer of Failing Forward: On the Road to Social Impact, during a recent interview for a new project.
Our data-driven journey began six years ago and according to Dr. Liz Schoenfeld, Chief Research and Evaluation Officer at LifeWorks, the use of data is what sets our non-profit apart.
“In the effort to end youth homelessness, this has resulted not only in an array of flexible housing solutions, but also a constellation of evidence-based support services, such as peer support and supported employment,” said Schoenfeld. “Perhaps most importantly, data helps to shed light on why specific interventions are likely to be effective and for whom an intervention is most appropriate.”
With our deep understanding of local data, strong partnerships, and emphasis on services that meet our youth’s needs, Austin is positioned to be one of the first cities in the nation to reach the goal of ending youth homelessness.
