As our community continues to shelter-in-place during Mental Health Awareness Month, families are facing tremendous vulnerability as they navigate economic, relational, and health stressors. LifeWorks counseling services are here to help.

Existing mental health conditions have been exacerbated by the pandemic and its economic fallout. There are now increased risks for instances of child abuse and domestic violence among families. In mid-March, we converted all counseling services to telehealth and continue to support youth and parents with mental health needs during the pandemic crisis.

“I’m happy that LifeWorks is providing remote services because my family still needs help,” explained one father in our counseling services program.

LifeWorks Youth and Adult Counseling program provides youth and family counseling to more than 1,000 individuals every year who are experiencing stress, economic hardship, conflict, trauma and relationship issues. This program is part of the State of Texas’ Services to At-Risk Youth program, which is intended to provide families the tools to be successful and to prevent issues from escalating to the need for Child Protective Services and/or Juvenile Justice.

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, a total of 3,829 calls to the hotline were made between March 16 and April 20 from people citing COVID-19 as a condition of their domestic violence experience.

If your family is dealing with increased stress and conflict right now, you can call LifeWorks Youth and Adult Counseling program at (512) 735-2400.
